Welcome Message

Greetings from Naveen Cabral, the Primary music teacher for Grades 4 and 5. I have also been assigned the responsibility of a Performance Co-ordinator in the Primary, under which I do run the Primary Musical and the Festival of Choirs. I am very excited to be entering my 13th year in teaching, 11 of which have been with the best of PYP schools. I play the guitar, recorder, keyboard/piano, xylophones and a few other instruments but my forte lies in singing. In addition to my strong PYP experience, I recently completed my Grade 8 Vocals in Trinity - Rock and Pop. I have also completed various other music certifications through the Trinity College of Music. I have been trained by quite a few professionals in different instruments and musical technique. In addition to the Music Together certification that I have, I have attended quite a few IB workshops (PYP). I do perform as a musician in my spare time, as a vent to my outburst of passion and love for music.

I believe my education and degree in my career has mainly been my teaching experience, which has helped me acquire the best from my students as we worked together to create great music and events. My aim will always be to help the students acquire musical skills and knowledge that will help them improve as an overall personality towards a better future for our world.

Instrument Unit Performance

As we are progressing with the Instrument Unit, the students have also started preparing themselves for a performance for parents to be scheduled for the end of February. Parents would be invited by class and each student will perform a solo piece on the "Instrument" and then the entire class will perform a piece together as an ensemble. The schedule for these performances will be rolled out shortly and parents will also be notified through emails.

Recorder Essential Agreements as discussed with the students

Letter sent out to all parents in grade 3

RECORDER LETTER

Dear Parents/Guardians-

As part of our music curriculum, we have begun learning how to play the soprano recorder in our music class. The school has provided each student with an instrument from the student’s impressed account. A 'Recorder Karate' booklet will be provided to be used in class. Over the next few weeks each student will have the opportunity to earn belts of different colours as he or she progresses through the 'Recorder Karate'.

In order for students to move forward, they will need to practice at home. However, if their recorder is always at home, they will not be able to play it at school so they must remember to bring their recorder back to school.  We have essential agreements on bringing the recorder to school, and on the third time the child forgets his/her recorder, we will be sending a note home and if it happens again, the recorder will remain at school in order to ensure having it for music class. An easy way to ensure that your child’s recorder comes to school is to have them always put it away in their backpack right after they are through practicing. The Recorder Karate booklet stays at school, so in order to practice at home, students can download it from our blogs.

Below is a list of helpful practicing tips:

1)      Cover all holes properly! (Leaks cause squeaks!)

2)      The left hand is on top (the right hand helps steady at the bottom… for now…)

3)      Blow gently into the recorder with “warm” air!

4)      Practice at least 3 or 4 times a week for at least 10 minutes at a time!

5)    Recorders not to be played outside the music room in the passages or school building especially in the bus or car while being driven home.

6)    For the essential agreements on recorders and to know more about how to keep your recorder clean, etc,  kindly visit the blogs
www.oispypmusic.blogspot.in and henderson-ois-music.blogspot.in respectively and click on the Grade 3 tab.

Thanks so much for your continued support of your child’s creativity and growth in music!

Welcome Back - Happy New Year!!

Hi all,

Welcome back to a whole new year. Its good to be back to school and we can see the happiness on the children's faces as they walk in to school every morning since Monday.

Below we have the links to watch the videos from the Winter Concert from December 2014.

Due to a technical glitch we do not have a good recording for the 3B class. If you have a good recording that you can share with us, please send it to us and we can upload it here.
