Welcome Message

Greetings from Naveen Cabral, the Primary music teacher for Grades 4 and 5. I have also been assigned the responsibility of a Performance Co-ordinator in the Primary, under which I do run the Primary Musical and the Festival of Choirs. I am very excited to be entering my 13th year in teaching, 11 of which have been with the best of PYP schools. I play the guitar, recorder, keyboard/piano, xylophones and a few other instruments but my forte lies in singing. In addition to my strong PYP experience, I recently completed my Grade 8 Vocals in Trinity - Rock and Pop. I have also completed various other music certifications through the Trinity College of Music. I have been trained by quite a few professionals in different instruments and musical technique. In addition to the Music Together certification that I have, I have attended quite a few IB workshops (PYP). I do perform as a musician in my spare time, as a vent to my outburst of passion and love for music.

I believe my education and degree in my career has mainly been my teaching experience, which has helped me acquire the best from my students as we worked together to create great music and events. My aim will always be to help the students acquire musical skills and knowledge that will help them improve as an overall personality towards a better future for our world.

Musical Roles

A small summary of the musical we are working on is given below.

Dig It! A Musical Tale of Ancient Civilizations by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson Travel back in time and join inquisitive Archeologists,Taki and Tut, and their fossil friend, Lucy, as they explore the wonders of ancient civilization. From the farm laborers of Early Mesopotamia and Egyptian Mummies who "rap" to a chorus of Ancient Greeks and Romulus and Remus who dream of building a great city, we'll re-discover the mysteries of the ancient past!

In our first rehearsal, we had our auditions for the acting roles and the results are listed down. Please note that the decision of the Primary Music Team in finalising the roles for the musical is final.

Little Tommy Tinker

In our first Unit, we are working with melody and how instruments support and enhance melody. Here is an orff harmony which the Grade 5 students have been working on with the Little Tommy Tinker song. In addition to these instrument parts, students use a few other instruments to create and improvise on parts that could go along with the above.

The students are also involved in solo singing on a microphone, as the rest indulge in a game that involves a lot of fun.

Button You Must Wander, Chatter With The Angels and Who's that tapping?

In our first Unit, we are working with melody and how instruments support and enhance melody. Here are the orff arrangements which the Grade 4 students have been working on with the songs. In addition to these instrument parts, students use a few other instruments to create and improvise on parts that could go along with the above. These activities involve games as well, in addition, to make the engagement even more fun.
